Inexpensive Spring Break Stay-Cation Ideas in Utah's Tooele County (Tooele and Wendover Areas)

Are you planning a stay-cation for Spring Break, but need ideas for where to go and what to do?  Well here is a list of places you can visit in Utah's Tooele County (Tooele and Wendover Areas).  Each of these things is open in the spring and costs less than $10 per person.  In fact, many of these places are free.


Bonneville Sea Base

Once upon a time somebody looked at the salty water that was found in the warm springs near Grantsville and wondered if tropical fish could live in the water. The answer turned out to be yes and today you can see many different types of fish in the water of the Bonneville Sea Base. This place is primarily associated with scuba diving, but the public is welcome to come out to watch the fish be fed.

This impressive sculpture can be seen next to 1-80 as you drive to Wendover. This 87 foot tree sculpture was constructed by the artist Karl Momen in the 1980’s. There isn’t an official highway exit to see the sculpture, but if you are travelling west bound there is an unofficial place where you can pull over and park your car so that you can get out to walk around the tree.

Bonneville Salt Flats

Best places to see the salt flats are the west-bound Rest Area on the west side of Wendover, or the Bonneville Salt Flats International Speedway at Bonneville Speedway Road in Wendover

During the summer the salt flats are an inhospitable desert. During the spring they are still an inhospitable desert, but the temperatures are cooler. In fact, depending on the weather there maybe water on the salt flats. Gazing out over the salt flats is an impressive sight. The topography is so flat that you can even see evidence of the curvature of the earth.

If you are a World War II history buff you will want to visit this airport. That’s because this the location where the crews for B17, B24, and B29 aircraft trained. This included the crews of the Enola Gay. A museum has been set up in the Service Club Building. There are displays of artifacts and models of the aircraft and the airport itself.
