However, the side of the road isn't pedestrian friendly. There isn't a sidewalk or even a trail. The distance is over 2 miles. I found your Fountain Freight Road pag...Hi Valerie,<br />I found your Fountain Freight Road page when I was looking for if there were any article regarding that certain trail after we returned to Japan from that memorable walk for my family a couple week ago. Once I started reading, I found the blog you wrote matched to our experience so amazingly in many aspects that I just couldnāt get my eyes off of it! Ah, I wish I was lucky enough to find your blog before we got into it! What surprises me more was that you took 3 small children! We also are a family of 5, but 2 sons are 25 and 22, and the daughter is 19. We wanted to go to the overlook of the Grand Prismatic Spring. We saw it up above the hill from the boardwalk around the Spring. The bad thing was that we did not search hard enough for the information how to get there. We found a thin long line drawn so close to the Grand Prismatic Spring on the map, which we got at the park entrance, and its name was Fountain Flats Drive. We thought we could drive down that road all the way to somewhere reasonably close to the overlook. When we got into the Fountain Flats Drive, it soon ended up with a dead end. The beginning of the Fountain Freight Road. The sign at the entrance wrote multiple destinations and the distance, but none of them we were familiar with. And the other sign told us āBe Prepared for the Bear Encounterā. We were disappointed that we had to leave the car so soon, but not as much as stopping us to go to the overlook. Soon after we started walking, we were surprised to find 10-15 bisons looking down on us from a height of the roadside as close as 20 yards or so. They all laid down, stayed still, and were so calm that we didnāt even realize they were there. As far as a mile we came, we saw nobody else. That made us start wondering āAre we heading right to the overlook? If so, why we saw nobody? We saw the overlook from the boardwalk, and was full of tourists. Where did they come from?ā. As far as 2 miles we came along, the first couple we met told us there would be a mile or more to go to the overlook. They looked so native on nature trail walking, confused when they heard we had no snacks or even a bottle of water, and they held a bear spray in hand which we didnāt. We obviously underestimated this trail. I thought we were lucky that it was a flock of sleepy bison we met, not an angry mama grizzly bear. After we walked the rest 1 mile and saw many tourist joined the trail from the split from the Fairly Falls, we found the path to the overlook, and yes, it was worth the endurance we walked through. Of course we walked back the same route to the Fountain Flats Drive parking. We were mostly very silent on our way back. The next to visit on that day was the Old Faithful, but because of the time spent before that, we were a little late in time and it was blowing up high in the air when we reached there. This made us decide to visit the Morning Glory Pool while we wait for the next eruption an hour and half later. It was the second bad idea on that day. The Morning Glory Pool was far enough to made us run on our way back to see the next eruption. Again we arrived a little late for the eruption that we could see it already started. That day, I walked 34,432 steps, 12.3 mile, partially I ran. A long, worrying, hot, sceanic, wonderful walk my family can share and never forget. Your blog make me remember so many things. Good luck on your next adventure!Takuyukihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11823556798328693702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3395336023145069131.post-75186101481821629462019-09-02T23:34:03.673-05:002019-09-02T23:34:03.673-05:00Hi Valerie,

The program was scheduled to have at least 3 more missions after Apollo 17, but funding was cut before those missions went to the moon. We've been to pretty much everything that fits that description except the twin falls area. So yesterday that's where we went. Thanks to your descriptions of the falls and the bridge (we also stopped at the twin falls public library since it was freezing cold and we needed something warm to do outside of the car). We were in the park yesterday with five littles five and under and this visit to the beach was definitely The highlight for them (and actually everyone) of the day. We weren't prepared as far as swimming wear, but made do with diapers and naked bums (the kiddos) and just wading till the tips of our shorts got wet (the parents). We skipped rocks and floated on logs and dug in the sand and it was so wonderful! This was a spot none of my family had ever even stopped at (even for the visitors center), but we will for sure be back!Kimmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03580644139686752221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3395336023145069131.post-14427206544233838512018-08-11T20:41:14.515-05:002018-08-11T20:41:14.515-05:00We just got back from a trip to Yellowstone with m...We just got back from a trip to Yellowstone with my family. We had one day in the park and thanks to a couple of your posts, including this one, we got to see some great new things (awesome for those of us who have been multiple times to the park) mixed in with the tried and true must sees for the kids and in-laws who have never been. The overlook was a highlight for sure- what a view! Thanks for the info. Like you said, the parking lot and trail aren't really labeled, but we were able to find it just fine and enjoyed the excursion very much. I'll just add the trail is fairly stroller friendly, even, if you have a good big-wheeled jogger type. My brother made it to the top with a double bob with not much problem, even with lots of people around. :)Kimmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03580644139686752221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3395336023145069131.post-74426530914146672802018-08-09T01:29:47.797-05:002018-08-09T01:29:47.797-05:00Sounds like a lot of work but you made it all like...Sounds like a lot of work but you made it all like new again. (And probably will be in the future.) The short answer is that to drive the full Grand Loop Road is about 160 miles. How many days you spend in the park really depends on what you want to see. It can be done in as little as two days, but you'd really have to rush and you'd have to skip a lot of the smaller features. I would recommend between 5 and 8 days if you really want to immerse yourself in the park.
